Wine Lover...I'm confused did you read my article? I never said anything about video. I use Youtube in fact on this site and it's FLASH based player. Oh and slow internet connections don't really make Flash any slower in the end, at least in the 21st century they don't.

And as far as removing you from the "boring flat page concepts" well AJAX seems to have fixed that and creative CSS...All I'm talking about above is the need to communicate...and Flash intro and funny graphics do not do this very well.

Flash is the greatest marketing tool in the world... I removes us from the boring flat page concepts and opens a huge world of presentations... maybe you don't like it because your on a dial up or very slow DSL connection. I do know that as we begin our new web site California Wine Channel it is going to be all video and that presentation requires the latest version of Flash to stream it..... Welcome to the 21st Century.....

Great post Ryan, couldn't agree with you more.

I'd like to add one item to your list, although some may not agree with me. I cannot stand, nor do I understand, when people put much of their content up on the web in PDF format. For whatever reason, I've noticed a seemingly high number of winery websites using the dreaded PDF format, which does nothing but slow down my browsing experience. If you want to send me a PDF file via email, I'm OK with that, but PDF should not be used on the web in my mind.

well put chap - most of your points are relevant for the general consumer as much for the journalist. It should all be viewed as part of the marketing effort!
