Given the relatively high price of the `basic` wines from Rias-Baixes this level seems remarkably low. Is Adrienne a wine writer? if so she would know about the work, skill and risks that go into a wine like this. If the area was better known world wide then the price would double! Also sorry to hear oeneologists talking poppy cock! If the grapes are affected by Botrytis Cynerea then the wine is a noble rot wine. Full Stop. The fact that they smell and taste different in different areas of the world is the `Joy of Wine` The grape variety, soil and winemaker all make a difference too. VIVE LA DIFFERENCE! (On a similar tack:- Shame that Ygay whites are no longer made in the time honored fashion, the market place won`t take wines that taste too different and only the family owned Tondonia is left to carry the flag!)
