Catavino: My name is Brandy and I come from Jerez

  • Ben Bell · 11 months ago
Great post! Brandy de Jerez is favorite among my friends. There's so much more character and value compared to Cognac. I try to steer people towards it on a regular basis. The solera aging to adds so much complexity and length to the finish. My favorites are the Cardinal Mendoza Gran Reserva and the Conde de Osborne Gran Reserva. The Veterano is a little too rough for me, but the Osborne Magno Reserva costs just a little more and is my QPR choice.

Thanks for the comment Ben. Yup, Veterano is a bit rough, but good with coke or in coffee...

The Brandy Library looks like a great spot. The next time I visit my younger brother in NYC, I'll have to try this place out. Thanks for that!

Agree with Ben - Cardenal Mendoza is about as close to a work of art in a glass as you can get. wonderful stuff.

Brandy has a very interesting history. In the 17th Century, the wine trade was very important to many shippers. Some shippers began to bring cheap Portuguese wine to Britain, to sell it for a profit.
