- Spanish fruit in a good year holds enough character to be worth preserving without "oak". An old neutral barrel for storage is a different and practical matter, but "oak" is too...
- Great read Gabriella. Was hoping to go to the bloggers conference, but clashes with another trip. Regards, Lindsay
- Nice post. Very evocative imagery. Cheers!
- Hey Bill, happy belated birthday from both of us! We're so sorry we couldn't have celebrated with you, but we'll make us for lost time at Christmas ;-)
- Agree with your thoughts on bottle aged wine. Just finished up my birthday dinner. One of the bottles was a '95 Ch. Lascombes. It's been in my cellar (wine closet) for 10 years or so. Funny...

Out of curiosity, does anyone remember what your friends were drinking? Were the wines you mentioned something you got into on your own or were these wines you shared at parties and family gatherings?
My Dad was an Ernest & Julio Gallo Chardonnay / Rose fan typically bringing home either the box wine or the jug for as far back as I can remember. In turn, this was actually first wine I purchased and brought to a party. I had actually never heard of Mateus until I saw it on a shelf here in Spain.
I suppose I'm curious how large a reach Mateus and Lancers had at the time. Were these wines as famous as I've both heard and read.
