Catavino: If I say Valencia, You say…..

dhonig · 1 year agoValencia isn't a brand of orange, but a type of orange. If you are lucky enough to get a real Indian River valencia orange, well, you have your hands on the single best piece of citrus fruit in the world. I also hear it's the name of a city. It's named after the orange, right?

Joantxo · 1 year agoDear all, Speaking about oranges.... "Valencia late" is the variety of fruit that grows from march-june in Valencia orchards, and because of the history of this area exporting oranges all over Europe the last 100 years I will say this is the reason the people may link Valencia, with the oranges . <a href="http://www.intercitrus.org/ndsite.php?section=con..."><a href="http://www.intercitrus.org/ndsite.php?se..." target="_blank">http://www.intercitrus.org/ndsite.php?section=con... Valencia has become a brand for the oranges, like New Zealand has become so for the kiwi fruit. And you are right Gabriella, there is another Valencia city in Venezuela. Saludos,

lagramiere · 1 year ago"caqui (cross between an apricot and a tomato) " - commonly known as a persimmon! I have to admit, when I hear Valencia, I think paella! Jealous as always...

Jacqueline · 1 year agoI also thought Valencia was located somewhere south of the U.S. growing up, but I was thinking more Caribbean (and yes, all I knew of it was the oranges). Fortunately, I figured that error out and visited the city myself a couple years ago - it is gorgeous! I didn't get the sense of disjointedness you did, however - rather, I felt like it was a relaxing follow-up after visiting Barcelona. Or maybe it was just the distinct lack of fellow tourists (as compared to Barca) I noticed! I also thought the architecture of the city was amazing if a little jarring at times due the juxtaposition of modern design and significantly older styles, and I remember having the greatest simple seafood meal at one of the cafes in the older part of the city. Like lagramiere, I do think of paella when I think of Valencia, along with oranges, of course!
