Depending on TV-Channel and/or newspaper you were able to see that markets were normal and full... or empty. That everything was quiet and under control.... or trucks on fire... And to be honest, it is both a negative and positive attribute. For me, it's positive in that the attitude towards saving money and caring for what possessions you do have is a wonderful behavior. Spaniards tend to be very fastidious and cautious, from what I see, the contrary to the American culture. On the flipside, because the fear of "lacking" is so rooted into the culture, it tends to blind people from seeing the big picture, getting stuck in fear of not having security. I applaud their fighting spirit, but I think they are failing to see how many truckers are actually supporting them (from one report, less than 15% of the total), and if their reckless behavior is actually conveying the right message?

Re: Decrease in Fuel, Food and Supplies throughout Iberia as a result of the Trucker’s Strike

Completely agree Jose, as I have seen it first hand since I've lived here. Thirty & fourty something people inherited the fear of their parents. Our parents raised and/or born during Civil War. That time they'd a lack of everything, including food (yeeep, my parents as well). Therefore one of their biggest fears remain and appear again in these kind of situations. Despite people who born during baby-boom never lived this kind of lackness, they've inherited this kind of 'fear'... Joining this to the 'stupid-mass-behaviour' is easier to understand the last days market fever...
Cheers,
Jose

Re: Decrease in Fuel, Food and Supplies throughout Iberia as a result of the Trucker’s Strike

Hi Gabriella,

maybe a glance on spanish history of last 50 years can help to understand the odd behaviour you mention. Apparently, what's newsworthy right now in my neck of the woods (washington state) is not a huge fuel shortage in Europe but "Patrick Swayze going back to work." Please, share updates as they come!

Jeff

Re: Decrease in Fuel, Food and Supplies throughout Iberia as a result of the Trucker’s Strike

Well, here is an update to the update.
