I get these feelings too when I come back to the US. But after 5 years going back and forth I guess I am used to most of the differences, but I still get caught off guard. Such as, in Minnesota they speak in English in the stores (surprise, surprise) and I have to stop myself from saying "Hasta luego" when I leave. And I have to stand farther away from people so they don't get uncomfortable and back away. I realize the Spanish language has gotten into my hand motions too, I have to try not to do that finger waving side to side to say "no". I did it to a waitress the other day and then remembered that in the US its a little condescending. Oops!

Personally, I like the photo. It looks as though the subject is relaxed and thoroughly enjoying the moment! Although, I must admit that the wine was French, not Iberian. We can't wait to have you back, with Ryan, of course.

By the way, I heard you stopped at my "local" wine shop at Glen Lake to promote Catavino. Dan is increasing his Iberian wine selections, so when I told him about Catavino, he said he already had the url presented to him by "a nice young woman", which is you.

Beatriz is a wonderful friend for whom I met back in Minneapolis, MN months before our departure to Madrid, Spain. Originally from Barcelona, Beatriz has been a world traveller living everywhere from Brussels to Mexico where she is now.

As to her point regarding cultural norms, I agree completely that our home country will always hold a place in our hearts. And yes, it is very true that life would be incredibly boring if difference wasn't celebrated and welcomed! If this weren't true, I wouldn't be missing that glass of Cava with my husband in a quaint cafe in Barcelona while I sit here now in my family's home in Chicago. Sure, I could buy a bottle here and thoroughly enjoy it, but without the language, sounds and smells of Spain, a glass of Cava just isn't the same for me.

I totally agree with you about "the good and the bad". I missed from the US the same things as you do when I'm in Spain! But, as you said (and you already know), we have really nice things in Spain!...We can't have everything at the same time! Maybe live would be too boring...
