Andrea, i was there some time ago, and i fell in love with this little city! It is a very special place, very romantic. The Pousada is marvelous, and i can´t wait to go there again! As for the orelhas de porco fritas, deep fried pig’s ears, i hope you have saved some for Gabriella... otherwise she´ll be very mad at you!!! Just kiding! It is really a great place to spend some days... great article Andrea!

    Cheers

I think I'd rather get chased by wild dogs, placed in a pit of venomous snakes, lay on a bed of hot coals or jump out of a plane without a parachute before choosing to have that very distinct flavor in my mouth again; despite the fact that some people absolutely love them! Hence Vitor, please allow me to humbly offer you my portion of fried pig's ears ;-)

Thanks! I know, I thought the place was so lovely, especially the Pousada. We hope to book a stay there in the near future and I would also like to do a future article on pousadas in general :)

After reading Andrea's description, I just want to hop on a plane and find this charming little town. One could taste as well as smell the city as she described every detail. Andrea you are my next tour guide! Wonderful article.

    Andrea,

Your great article takes me back to the first European meal that I had with my wife and son this past June. It was in Lisbon in the Alfama area where we had just left our amazing pile of luggage at a charming vacation rental, exhausted, starving and in awe of the fact that we had just left our Canadian existence behind.

We had a small sampling of cheeses with our bread and they were devine. The langostinos (not sure of the Portuguese word) were the best we´ve ever had. Reading about your meal makes my mouth water and keeps me wondering if the food in Portugal is simply better than that in Spain. I welcome anyone´s thoughts on that one.

I like pigs ears, by the way, and had ´carreta´ the other day too - pig´s cheeks - quite similar and also chewy and good.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Thank you for the wonderful feedback guys! Well you know Ivan, the Portuguese will of course claim that their food is better than Spain hahaha :p But I believe there may be some truth in that after having lived in both Spain and Portugal though it's more like it's better in certain categories and not in others. I think it really all depends what you're looking for in your tastes and style, would love to hear other opinions on this as well :)
